Listserv Reflection

The Listserv was one of the most helpful tools during the past five weeks.  There have been many times throughout the semester that I have had various questions about assignment due dates, specific instructions for assignments, etc.  Before the listserv, I had to contact one individual at a time to find an answer to my question.  However, with the listserv, so many people receive the email, therefore not only will you be able to ask people who I normally don’t communicate with, but there is a faster response rate.  I was amazed at the amount of people who used the listserv to post any questions or helpful suggestions.  This definitely made the technology part of the course a lot easier to handle.  For example, I had a crisis one night with trying to figure out how to link email addresses and how to imbed sound clips into my website.  I posted my question and received an answer minutes later.  The questions that other people ask and the responses to those questions are helpful to read as well.  I don’t have to post my question if some has already posted it.
The idea of a listserv could serve wonderful purposes in any educational setting.  I wish that the listserv would have been set up for all fifteen weeks of MUE332.  I also think that other courses at West Chester University could benefit from using a listserv.  In terms of future educational settings, I think this would be a good system to implement for both students and parents.  Email is very convenient, and most people check it daily, so any questions, comments, and concerns could be posted.  Parents would be able to discuss with each other carpools for rehearsals, parent meetings for different ensembles, behavioral issues among their children, etc.  The list is endless.
